Matt Cranitch is something of a renaissance man in the realm of Irish traditional music: player, scholar, exponent, teacher, writer. He has established a high reputation as a traditional fiddle player and teacher, both at home in Ireland and abroad, and has also presented lectures, master-classes and workshops on various aspects of Irish music. With a long history of tunes under his belt, having played with Na Fili, Any Old Time, and currently Sliabh Notes (with box player Donal Murphy and guitarist/singer Tommy O'Sullivan), Matt is also the author of The Irish Fiddle Book, one of the most useful and comprehensive instructional texts available to beginning students of the music. Matt, who lives in Cork City, Ireland, is also well-known as an authority on Sliabh Luachra music, having researched and promoted this style of music for many years.
